LIZZIE MAMMONE
Class of 2025 Jumping Seat Candidate
I started riding when I was 5 years old at a camp and I've been in love with the sport ever since. This sport has taught me an abundance about myself and about life. Throughout the 10 years that I've been riding, I've been faced with many challenges including adversity and injuries. Riding has taught me how to be a hard worker with perseverance. I basically live at the barn. I am there at 4:00 AM to wrap and load the horses onto the trailer and there at 11:00 PM when they get back from the horse show. Even at shows I’m always taking care of my horse or lending a hand to others. When I was 11 years old, a pony threw me off and I went to the ER to find that I had acquired a small crack in a spinal disk. I told my parents I was fine and I had to go home to clean my boots for the show I had the next day. This sport has also taught me that anything is possible if you work hard for what you want. When I was in 7th grade I dreamed of going to junior hunter finals. I rode almost every single day and put in the work to make it happen. This year I qualified on my first try and showed my horse in the large 15u 3"3' juniors and received 8th place in the handy round to move up 16 spots and finish 19th overall. Whether I am riding or not, I am always at the barn. I do everything to the best of my ability whether it be riding or taking care of my horse and tack. You can ask anyone who knows me, I am a neat freak. Everything in my locker at the barn is in pristine order. Riding has also taught me to be independent because I grew up in a barn where there was always work to be done and it wasn’t going to get done unless you did it. Although I already completed my goal for the 2022 show season of competing at Junior Hunter Finals, I still have many more goals to achieve. My biggest goal is to ride on a Division I team. Some other goals of mine include riding in the USHJA International Hunter Derby Championship and competing in more of the equitation medals. I am ready to put in the work to make my dreams a reality and find the right team that best suits me.
ACADEMICS
I currently attend Saint Dominic's High School in Oyster Bay, New York. I am maintaining a 3.9 GPA with A's in all classes and an overall average of 96. I was listed on the principal's list during all four quarters of my freshman and sophomore years all while riding six days a week, playing tennis and training for ski season. During my freshman year, I was a part of the culinary, book, and tennis clubs.Riding and academics are equally as important to me.
OTHER SPORTS
Although riding is my main sport, I also ski and play tennis. Team sports have taught me that trust and dedication to your team is key to succeeding. Even though I play these sports for fun, I also play them to help keep my body in shape for riding. They help me with being able to compete with a team without it feeling forced. I love being a part of the team at the barn or my tennis team at school because my friends and I are always there to support each other.
